The Cost of Success

Rowing is a sport that requires full time commitment. Unfortunately the sport does not offer the same financial recompense as other sports and Olympic events. The training is year round with the Domestic season requiring travel across many states and territories within Australia. Now selected Hannah has forgone her dietetic practice to relocate to a Canberra and will be required to travel to countries across Europe to gain race practice. This means the chance of gaining meaningful employment is very limited.

Whilst travel costs are met by sporting institutes the miscellaneous ‘living’ costs are considerably large and are at the athlete’s expense. Add to this Hannah’s commitment of raising two small boys with her husbad Michael and the chance to work becomes impossible hence financial stress is real and can impact greatly on ultimate performance.

YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED

As with any elite sport, in order to get to and stay at the top requires 100% commitment and dedication.

Combining elite sport and motherhood will be tough to say the least, and Hannah is under no false illusions that success will just happen. But it is that dream and the desire to prove mothers can return to their chosen sports career and a love for the sport of rowing that is driving her forward.

As a mother of two young boys, and as a dietitian working part time, the need to fit 12+ sessions per week into her week means that something must give. Obviously her children are the most important consideration which means that her dietetic practice will need to be placed on hold for the time being.

This has resulted in Hannah seeking sponsorship from companies who are looking to gain exposure for their business, whilst also helping a former world champion athlete reignite and achieve her dreams.
